13% of the UK’s digital tech industries workforce are non-UK workers – making digital tech more international than the rest of the workforce

Although the majority of digital tech workers are UK nationals, we can see a growing number of international workers in the digital sector.

In the UK’s digital tech industries in 2015, workers from non-EU ¹ nations account for a higher share of employment than EU workers (7 per cent vs 6 per cent) – EU numbers here and elsewhere exclude UK workers ².

This is a higher share than they account for in the rest of the workforce where non-EU workers comprise 4 per cent of the workforce. The share of employment made up of EU nationals is the same for digital tech and non-digital tech industries at 6 per cent.

The digital tech sector is therefore more international than the rest of the workforce, with non-UK workers accounting for 3 per cent more of the digital-tech workforce.
